Vasser Seydel is the deep seabed mining campaign director for The Oxygen Project, an organization that raises awareness and defends the ecosystems that produce the planet’s oxygen. Seydel says that deep seabed mining — the process of scraping the seafloor at depths below 200 meters for mineral deposits — will have a detrimental effect on the Earth’s climate.

Seydel, who is also the granddaughter of media mogul Ted Turner and a director of the Turner Foundation, says there’s a lot of greenwashing going on by companies that have interests in mining the deep seabed.
