Coronavirus Updates, April 8: COVID-19 Testing in India Shall be Free of Cost, Says Apex Court

The health ministry reported that over 5,000 people in India have been infected by the novel coronavirus. Of this, 402 people have been cured/discharged and 149 have died. Independent tracker Worldometer, however, has reported slightly higher numbers. It reported 160 deaths in India and over 5300 positive cases in India.
60 new cases of coronavirus in Maharashtra today. The state now has 1,078 people infected with the virus. In view of this, the government of Maharashtra has ordered that wearing masks will now be mandatory and those who flout the rule, would be fined.
Globally 14lakh people have been infected by the virus according to the John Hopkins University and over 82,145 people have died.
Pakistan recorded a spike in the number of infections. 577 new cases were reported in the country in a single day.
