Sopan Joshi is a journalist and author who has widely written on the environment. He argues that humans can only conserve nature if nature is an integral part of their lives; which is not the case for most Indian living in an urban setting. He stresses on the give and take relationship that humans have with the environment by providing examples of it. He believes that observing specials days for environmental conservation is only a gimmick.
