Banda, One of the Most Backwards Regions in India #LokSabhaElections2019

In the Banda Lok Sabha constituency of Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has not given a ticket to the sitting MP Bhairon Prasad Mishra, instead giving the ticket to RK Singh Patel, who contested the 2014 elections on a BSP ticket and was defeated by Mishra.

Interestingly, the candidate fielded by the BSP-SP candidate, Shyama Charan Gupta, is the sitting BJP MP from Prayagraj. And the Congress has fielded Bal Kumar Patel, the former Samajwadi Party MP from Mirzapur. The contest in Banda is interesting in that each of the 3 major candidates have formerly contested/served from the parties they are now contesting against.

The region itself is poor and suffers from lack of natural resources as well as sources of employment, which is the reason why people emigrate from here in large numbers.
