As political parties resort to religious, caste and community mobilisations ahead of UP polls, farmers' distress and issues of sugarcane farmers - who dominate western UP's landscape - have remained in the background. The farmers told The Wire that both the central and state governments have not addressed the real issues of sugarcane farming - that of delayed payments and low prices.
