Covid second wave and mental health: NIMHANS helpline sees 40% increase in calls

Amid the devastating second wave of the pandemic in India, feelings of fear, guilt, uncertainty and sadness abound. Many people are facing mental health problems including depression and anxiety.

Testament to this, the NIMHANS 24/7 mental health helpline has recorded a 40% spike in the number of calls its receives on a daily basis since the second wave broke out. Most (80%) callers are in the age-group of 18-45 years.
