Maharashtra facing shortage of ‘black fungus’ medicine: Rajesh Tope

Around 1,500 cases of mucormycosis (also called black fungus) have been reported in Maharashtra, informed state Health Minister Rajesh Tope on May 19 while addressing a press conference in Mumbai.

He also said the state is facing a shortage of medicine that is used in the treatment of patients infected with mucormycosis.

“There are about 1,500 mucormycosis cases. We've decided to provide free treatment in hospitals under Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana and to govt hospitals. The state will provide them with Amphotericin B vials. A global tender has also been issued,” Tope said.
