Disparity in vaccines access one of the biggest risks to end pandemic: WHO chief
  • 3 years ago
World Health Organization (WHO), director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called the disparity in access to vaccines as one of the biggest risks to end pandemic. He said that redressing this “global imbalance” is an essential part of the solution but not the only part, and not an immediate solution.

“The shocking global disparity in access to vaccines remains one of the biggest risks to ending the pandemic. High & upper middle countries represents 53% of world’s population but have received 83% of the world’s vaccine. By contrast low and lower-middle income countries account for 47% but have received just 17% of the world’s vaccine. Redressing this global imbalance is an essential part of the solution but not the only part, and not an immediate solution. We cannot put all eggs in one basket,” said WHO chief.
