Big Ben renovation to be completed in 2022

The restoration of Elizabeth Tower, Big Ben is postponed until 2022. The renovation (which is now approaching £80 million) of London's main attraction was expected to be completed this year. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, recovery work has been delayed.

The British Parliament said in a statement “the Elizabeth Tower conservation project is due to be completed in the second quarter of 2022. Parliament has announced a number of important milestones expected in the implementation of the project over the next twelve months. These include the demolition of additional scaffolding, the installation of clocks and the return of the world famous Big Ben chimes."

The installation of the original Victorian movement will begin this summer. Then the bells of the tower, including Big Ben itself, will be connected to it, and they will ring again early next year. By summer, the site of the Palace of Westminster will be completely cleared of scaffolding.
