Black marketing of oxygen cylinders; Covid-19 norms flouted; more

Amid sharp rise in coronavirus cases, Delhi and many other parts of India have been clamouring for one thing for over a week. Oxygen.

Outside oxygen filling stations, family members of Covid patients can be seen waiting in long lines under the harsh sun for hours on end. Even ambulances and hospital vans, which are tasked with giving emergency care to patients, have to wait for hours to get cylinders refilled.

Whether it is a big hospital which needs 10 tonnes of oxygen in a day or a smaller facility that depends on regular refilling of cylinders, almost everyone has sounded the alarm.

Though the situation seems to be somewhat stabilising for bigger hospitals, smaller ones continue to face serious shortages since supply to the refilling stations remains erratic.
