India announced it will open vaccination to all above the age of 18 starting May 1. The announcement came on a day the country reported 2.73 lakh new daily cases, the highest spike since the pandemic broke out a year ago. As the world’s virus toll nears 3 million, nations worldwide have started focusing on inoculation of younger citizens. India has liberalised and accelerated the vaccination drive for phase 3. Vaccine manufacturers would supply 50% of their doses to Indian govt. The remaining 50% doses would be free for state governments. Private hospitals can also procure vaccines from the Indian govt. India aims to vaccinate its young population to control the second wave of Covid-19.
