Beto O'Rourke says he's thinking of running for Texas Governor in 2022, but does he have a chance against two time incumbent Greg Abbott? We catch up with Texan's in O'Rourke's hometown of El Paso and Matt Klink, GOP strategist lays out the political landscape of the lone star state. ************SCRIPT****************************** It's a tale as old as time; once one election concludes, the political machine sets it's sights firmly on the next. And in 2022, there will be few races as hotly contested as the Texas Gubernatorial Race. Former Democratic Presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke is considering taking on two term Republican Governor: Greg Abbott. For these Texans from O'Rourke's home town of El Paso, it's a good idea. Maggie Cisneros, El Paso, TX I think he should run for governor of the state of Texas. And I think he came from El Paso to represent us very well and has done a very good job in Texas. Mary Gonzalez, El Paso, TX I believe that Beto should run for governor. And the reason is that after we had our tragedy here at the Walmart shooting, he showed his loyalty to the people here in El Paso and even to the people in Wallace. But that's not to say that every Texan backs Beto, far from it. Gregg Abbott remains one of the Lone Star state's most popular governors. SOT Matt KLINK GOP Strategist The incumbent governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, is almost assured of re election in Texas.He has a lot of money He's got a strong grassroots organization, and Texas is a rock solid Republican state. The problem Democrat's face is a lack of suitable candidates, O'Rourke has a national profile but he has not won a statewide race, neither has the next favourite Julián Castro former HUD secretary in the Obama administration. SOT KLINK 'Any credible statewide candidate has to think long and hard if they want to run a race knowing that the odds are that they are going to lose to a Republican candidate.' And there's one other contender who might throw his hat in the ring: Hollywood actor and native Texan Matthew McConaghy making the lone star Governors race STAR studded indeed.
