The Royal Challengers Bangalore, which had traveled to the playoffs last season of the IPL, failed to win the title. Despite having so many seasons of the IPL, this team is yet to win a single trophy. The team has always been weak in the bowling department and they have had to bear the brunt of it every season. Earlier this season, the team released key bowlers like Umesh Yadav, Morris and Steyn due to poor performance and has included many bowlers in the auction by purchasing them in the auction, with Kyle Jameson being bought for 15 crores.

आईपीएल के पिछले सीजन प्लेऑफ तक का सफर तय करने वाली रॉयल चैलेंजर्स बैंगलोर ख़िताब को हासिल करने में नाकामयाब रही थी। आईपीएल के इतने सारे सीजन होने के बावजूद इस टीम के हाथ अभी तक एक भी ट्रॉफी नहीं लगी है। टीम हमेशा से ही गेंदबाजी विभाग में कमजोर रही है और इसी का खामियाजा उन्हें हर सीजन उठाना पड़ा है। इस सीजन के पहले भी टीम ने उमेश यादव, मॉरिस और स्टेन जैसे प्रमुख गेंदबाजों को ख़राब प्रदर्शन के कारण रिलीज कर दिया और टीम में कई गेंदबाजों को ऑक्शन में खरीदकर शामिल किया है, जिसमे 15 करोड़ में खरीदे गए काइल जेमिसन प्रमुख हैं।
