The Ashtavinayak yatra or pilgrimage covers the eight ancient holy temples of Ganesh which are situated around Pune. Each of these temples has its own individual legend and history, as distinct from each other as the murtis in each temple.

ChintamaniGanpati temple in theur comes among the fifth Ganesha Temples to be visited. It is the temple that is dedicated to the Lord Ganesha son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. When it comes to Ashtavinayak Yatra, it is one of the famous temples which is located 27.04km from Pune region in Maharashtra. Theur is situated in the Haveli Taluka of Pune district near the union of river Bhima and the conjoint of river Mula as well as Mutha.

One of the Ashtavinayak Temples of Maharashtra; the abode of the Pandavas - all these and much more are some of the laurels associated to the Shri Girijatmaj Lenyadri Ganpati Temple. Legend has it, Shri Girijatmaj Lenyadri Ganpati Temple was the same place where Goddess Parvati meditated for 12 years for a child. That's how Ganesha was born. And it is from the same incident the temple is known as ‘Girijatmaj’ - ‘Girija’ meaning Devi Parvati and ‘Aatmaj’ meaning son.
