"We deserve these moments": Amy Sherald on painting Black people in leisure, not resistance
  • 3 years ago
Artist Amy Sherald discusses her work as a portraitist who paints African Americans in everyday settings and reflects on being a part of an influential group of Black American artists in the contemporary art world. Sherald received national acclaim for her portrait of Michelle Obama, which now sits in the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery, and recently for her portrait of Breonna Taylor on the cover of Vanity Fair. She is featured in the new documentary, "Black Art: In The Absence of Light," available now on HBO Max.
