Brazil has surpassed 250,000 COVID-19 deaths, one year after the first case was confirmed there. Throughout, President Jair Bolsonaro has downplayed the crisis and railed against lockdowns and face masks. Partisan struggles have also resulted in the failure to buy enough vaccine.
