Bhima Koregaon Case: Varavara Rao, 82, Granted Bail By Bombay HC On Medical Grounds For Six Months

Varavara Rao, 82-year-old poet-activist was granted bail for six months by the Bombay High Court on February 22 on medical grounds. He was in jail for over two years in the Bhima Koregaon case. The order was passed by a Bench of Justices SS Shinde & Manish Pitale in two separate pleas. Rao has to submit a personal bond of Rs 50,000 & two sureties of the same amount. Rao has been asked by the court to remain in Mumbai & be available for investigation whenever needed. He will also have to submit his passport before the NIA (National Investigation Agency) court, and he has been forbidden to establish any contact with his co-accused in the case. Rao is presently lodged in Nanavati Hospital after Chief Public Prosecutor Deepak Thakare informed the Court that the State Home Minister was willing to shift Rao to a private hospital as a special case.
