Kuantan is now a city

The capital city of Pahang was officially proclaimed as a city on Sunday by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
Kuantan will thus be the first in Pahang and the 18th in the country to be accorded city status.
