In spite of having a few impressive seasons in the competition, the Punjab-based franchise of the Indian Premier League have failed to lay their hands on the coveted championship trophy. The side had an underwhelming run last year as well, where they failed to finish in the top four after the group stage. In an attempt to turn their fortunes around, they have introduced a major change in their team name. However, social media was flooded with memes minutes after Kings XI Punjab rechristened themselves into Punjab Kings.

नाम बदलने से शायद किस्मत भी बदल जाती है. इसी उम्मीद से इस बार आईपीएल फ्रेंचाइजी किंग्स इलेवन पंजाब ने अपना नाम ही बदल दिया है. जी हाँ, अब किंग्स इलेवन पंजाब की टीम नहीं रही. अब यही किंग्स इलेवन पंजाब का नाम बदलकर पंजाब किंग्स हो गया है. साथ ही लोगो भी बदल गया है. सोमवार को ही किंग्स इलेवन पंजाब ने इस बात की घोषणा की थी कि नए सीजन में टीम नए नाम के साथ खेलने उतरेगी. आइपीएल के नए सीजन में पंजाब की टीम किंग्स इलेवन पंजाब की जगह पंजाब किंग्स के नाम के साथ उतरने वाली है. सोशल मीडिया पर टीम का नया लोगो वायरल हो रहा है. जानकारी के मुताबिक यही टीम का नया लोगो होगा. हालांकि अब तक टीम के आधिकारिक अकाउंट पर इसे जारी नहीं किया गया है और ना ही इंडियन प्रीमियर लीग ने इसे जारी किया है.
