Normal life was disrupted in Kashmir due to shut down on Tuesday that was observed to mark the eight death anniversary of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

Guru was hanged in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on this day in 2013.
Shops, private offices and other business establishments were completely shut in Srinagar city. The transport was off the roads and the public movement on the roads was thin.

Srinagar’s commercial hub Lal Chowk remained completely shut here as the police and paramilitary force personnel were seen deployed in heavy strength. Last week the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) had given a call for strike to be observed today as well as on February 11 on the death anniversary of its founder Mohammad Maqbool Bhat. Bhat was hanged in the Tihar jail prior to the onset of militancy on February 11, 1984.
