US Capitol riot: Chuck Schumer calls on Pence to invoke 25th Amendment against Trump
  • 3 years ago
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Thursday called on U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th amendment against President Donald Trump following the chaos at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, removing him from office.

A mob of pro-Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol Wednesday afternoon preventing legislators from certifying president-elect Joe Biden’s election victory for several hours.

Schumer said Thursday that if Pence will not invoke the 25th amendment against Trump that Congress should move to impeach the president, including the charge that would prevent him from running for office in the future.

Schumer also said that when he takes over as Senate Majority Leader in late January he will fire the Senate Sargeant at Arms, and said those who breached the U.S. Capitol building should be “prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
