Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine
Approved for Use in
the European Union.
It is the second vaccine to be
green-lit by regulators in Europe.
following the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
The European Commission authorized
the vaccine on Wednesday following
a recommendation from the
European Medicines Agency (EMA).
The EMA made its recommendation earlier
that day, saying it had “thoroughly assessed the data”
and passed it on to the European Commission. .
EMA’s human medicines committee
has thoroughly assessed the data on
the quality, safety and efficacy of
the vaccine and recommended by
consensus a formal conditional
marketing authorization be granted
by the European Commission, EMA, via CNBC.
In a statement, the president of the European
Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said the
EU would gain an additional 160 million doses
with “more vaccines [to] come.” .
Europe has secured up to two billion doses
of potential COVID-19 vaccines … We’ll
have more than enough safe and effective
vaccines for protecting all Europeans, Ursula von der Leyen, via CNBC
