Gandhamadan mountain, which is situated to the north of Mount Kailash, is still inhabited by 'Hanuman ji'. According to beliefs, there is a place on the north side from Mount Kailash, where Hanuman ji still resides today. The description of this abode of Hanuman ji is also found in many texts and Puranas. Hanuman ji had received the boon of immortality from mother Sita. When they reached Mother Sita with the message of Shriram, Mother Sita gave them this gift of being immortal. According to the Puranas, Hanuman ji resides on the Gandhamadan mountain in Kali Yuga. According to a legend, the Pandavas had reached Gandhamadan after crossing the Himvant at the time of their unknown exile. Once Bhima Sahasradal reached the forest of Gandhamadan mountain to take the lotus, when he saw Hanuman ji resting there, Bhima asked him to remove his tail from the path, then Hanuman Ji said that you remove yourself but Bhima Even after applying his full strength, his tail was not able to be removed. It is mentioned in the scriptures that Gandhamadan mountain is situated to the north of Mount Kailash, where Maharishi Kashyapa did penance. The mountain is inhabited by Gandharvas, eunuchs, apsaras and siddhas. It is considered impossible to reach the summit by any vehicle.

हनुमानजी कलियुग में गंधमादन पर्वत पर निवास करते हैं, ऐसा श्रीमद भागवत में वर्णन आता है। वर्तमान में कहां है गंधमादन पर्वत? : इसी नाम से एक और पर्वत रामेश्वरम के पास भी स्थित है, जहां से हनुमानजी ने समुद्र पार करने के लिए छलांग लगाई थी, लेकिन हम उस पर्वत की नहीं बात कर रहे हैं। हम बात कर रहे हैं हिमालय के कैलाश पर्वत के उत्तर में (दक्षिण में केदार पर्वत है) स्थित गंधमादन पर्वत की। यह पर्वत कुबेर के राज्यक्षेत्र में था। सुमेरू पर्वत की चारों दिशाओं में स्थित गजदंत पर्वतों में से एक को उस काल में गंधमादन पर्वत कहा जाता था। आज यह क्षेत्र तिब्बत के इलाके में है।> पुराणों के अनुसार जम्बूद्वीप के इलावृत्त खंड और भद्राश्व खंड के बीच में गंधमादन पर्वत कहा गया है, जो अपने सुगंधित वनों के लिए प्रसिद्ध था।
