Will Be Called ‘Guardians’.
The United States’ newest branch
of the military, Space Force, celebrated
its one-year anniversary on Friday.
In honor of the occasion, Vice President
Mike Pence announced that Space Force
members will be known as “Guardians.”.

United States Space Force will be known as
guardians … Soldiers, sailors, airmen,
Marines and guardians will be defending

People on social media were quick
to point on the similarity to Marvel’s
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ series. .
I see we're opting for the Marvel
Universe, not Star Trek or Star Wars, Anthony Zurcher, via Twitter.
The branch defended their name-choice
on Twitter, saying it was the result of “hundreds
of submissions” and detailed “research.”.
They also pointed out the historical relevance
of “Guardians,” tying it back to the “original command
motto” of the 1983 Air Force Space Command.
