S. Korea sees 1,078 cases on Wednesday, most cases since start of outbreak

Our starting point tonight: South Korean health officials have warned residents to take current Covid restrictions seriously as the country faces the possibility of entering into its first potential lockdown since the beginning of the pandemic.
This as the daily Covid-19 tally in the country again posted a new high at 1-thousand-and-78 today... 12 deaths and only one ICU bed dedicated to Covid-19 left in the city of Seoul.

South Korea reported one-thousand-78 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday... the highest number since the outbreak began.
It's the second time the country has surpassed the one-thousand-mark in just three days.
"There has been an average of 833 daily cases over the past seven days since December 10th... reaching the threshold for Level 3 social distancing measures, which is an average of 8-hundred to over 1-thousand daily cases."
The government is still cautious about imposing the Level 3 social distancing right away... as it will bring massive social and economic damage, especially to small business owners.
Of the 1-thousand-54 locally transmitted cases on Wednesday, more than 70-percent came from the greater Seoul area.
373 were from Seoul, and 384 from the surrounding areas of Gyeonggi-do province and Incheon.
The Seoul city government said on Wednesday that there is only one bed left for critically ill patients, as 77 out of 78 beds are occupied.
As for community treatment centers, 245 beds are currently available in Seoul.
The government added that 18 more critical care beds, and 278 beds in treatment centers will be ready by the end of the year.
The Korean government said that in the current situation, it is difficult to contain the virus by simply wearing masks.
"The most important thing is to not be in contact with other people, and to not be in places where it is difficult to wear masks."
The country saw 12 additional deaths on Wednesday, the second day in a row that deaths have been in the double digits.
This raised the death toll in the nation to 612.
