Tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan
Five of the 'eight-thousanders' and more than fifty peaks above 7,000 meters are located in Gilgit-Baltistan (23,000 ft). Gilgit and Skardu are the two main hubs for expeditions to those mountains. The region is home to some of the world's highest mountain ranges. The Karakoram and the western Himalayas are the main ranges. To the north are the Pamir Ranges, and to the west lies the Hindu Kush. K2 (Mount Godwin-Austen) and Nanga Parbat, the latter being one of the world's most feared ranges, are among the tallest mountains.

Gilgit-Baltistan is home to three of the longest glaciers in the world outside of the polar regions: Biafo Glacier, Baltoro Glacier, and Batura Glacier. There are several high-altitude lakes in Gilgit-Baltistan, in addition.
