Japan is reportedly planning to develop its own missiles that would give it the ability to strike overseas missile bases preemptively if it anticipates an attack.
Sources tell the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper... that in the next week... the Suga administration will be approving the proposal made by lawmakers with the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
The plan would give Japan missile strike capabilities within five years.
Tokyo will also reportedly upgrade an existing ground-to-sea missile into a weapon that can fly around a hundred kilometers.
It's a project that will cost around 320 million U.S. dollars.
Although Japan claims that the plan is meant to protect it from North Korea and China, it will likely be criticized as contradicting its official pacifist policy.
