Tokyo Buddhist temple offers matchmaking services for Japanese singles

The Tsukiji Hongwanji Buddhist temple in the Japanese capital Tokyo has started offering matchmaking services for singles. Those looking for love are interviewed by temple staff before they sign up to a national network of matching agencies which help arrange for them to meet other singles. Japan’s marriage rate has been dropping since the early 1970s, from a rate hovering around 10 per cent to only 4.8 per cent in 2019.
