Traditional dugout canoe racing, a highlight of national celebrations in the Central African Republic at the beginning of December, is making a comeback in the capital of Bangui. The country's bloody civil war has stopped the event from taking place in recent years, but a decrease in the intensity of the fighting has allowed for a cautious revival of the popular contest.
