Shanghai marathon runs as scheduled as coronavirus pandemic cancels other races around the world

Shanghai’s annual marathon went ahead as scheduled on November 29, 2020, but because of the coronavirus pandemic the field was capped at 9,000 runners, 29,000 fewer than the number who took part in the 2019 edition. The 10km and 5.5km races were also cancelled to reduce the chances of a local outbreak. Shanghai reported only seven local Covid-19 infections in the month of November.
