Christmas and Coronavirus- Ireland eases Covid 19 lockdown restrictions ahead of Christmas. In order to encourage some companies to reopen and for families to meet before Christmas, Ireland declared a phased easing of coronavirus lockout restrictions.
Taoiseach Micheal Martin, speaking in a televised speech, said the forthcoming festive season "cannot and will not be the kind of Christmas we are used to," but added that the easing of constraints will provide some relief from the hardships of 2020 and in particular, the last six weeks."
"We're going as far as we think it's possible to achieve the best balance of health, economic and social considerations in easing restrictions, but no further," he said.
The good news is that the attempts and sacrifices made by each of us are working. Lives were saved,' he said.
Under the measures decided by the Irish Government, all retail outlets, museums, galleries and libraries will be permitted to reopen as of 1 December in the form of social distance measures.
From Tuesday, individuals will also be allowed to go to the gym for individual training and to attend religious services under the "level three national restrictions.
Further easing will be implemented on 4 December, enabling the reopening of pubs selling food and restaurants. On-site within the premises, food must be cooked.
With the exception of takeaway and delivery, pubs that sell only alcohol will remain closed.
The government has said that households can mix with up to two other households over the Christmas period from 18 December to 6 January and travel between counties will be permitted.
Ireland has announced that from 7 January, it will review all the steps placed in place over the previous month, taking into account the trajectory of the virus.
In crowded offices, places of worship and in busy or crowded outdoor spaces where there is substantial culture, the government has decided that facemasks should be suggested.
Ireland became the first EU nation to revert to a complete coronavirus lockdown in October.
All Irish people were ordered to stay home while schools remained open, with a strict five-kilometer (three-mile travel limit for exercise.
Martin praised the efforts of the public to fight the epidemic, claiming the nation had "pushed the virus back to the point where we now have the second lowest rate of infection in the European Union."
Of the 71,699 confirmed cases, a total of 2,043 people have been killed by coronavirus in the Republic of Ireland.
