Today marks the 55th death anniversary of Batukeshwar Dutt (1910–1965), who was an Indian revolutionary and freedom fighter. Born into a Brahmin family in 1910, in the village of Oari (in present-day West Bengal), he grew up and studied in Cawnpore (Kanpur, UP). It is here that he meets Bhagat Singh in 1924 and later became a close associate of Chandrashekhar Azad.

देश को आजादी दिलाने के लिए संघर्ष करने वाले नायकों में बटुकेश्वर दत्त का अप्रतिम स्थान है। बटुकेश्वर दत्त ने भगत सिंह के साथ दिल्ली की नेशनल असेंबली में अपनी आवाज बुलंद करने के लिए बम फेंका था। बाद में अंग्रेजी हुकूमत ने उन्हें गिरफ्तार कर काला पानी की सजा सुनाई थी। जेल में जब उन्हें इस बात की जानकारी हुई कि भगत सिंह सुखदेव और राजगुरु को फांसी की सजा सुनाई गई है तो आजादी के संघर्ष के इस नायक को इस बात का काफी दुख था कि उन्हें फांसी क्यों नहीं दी गई।
