트로트 메들리 4대 천왕으로 불리는 진성은 데뷔 23년이 지난 지금도 각종 트로트 음악 프로그램 등에서 활약하며 2020년 6월 새로운 앨범을 발매하는 등 활발한 활동을 하고 있다. ‘보릿고개’는 2015년에 발표한 곡으로 배고프고 힘든 시절을 가사에 담아냈으며 진성이 직접 작사에 참여한 곡이다.
