Irregularities in COVID-19 TERS payments

According to the Department of Employment and Labour, the COVID-19 Temporary Employer-Employee Relief Scheme has paid over R160 million rand to people who shouldn't have received the funds. The scheme, administered by the Unemployment Insurance Fund, and established to deal with the COVID-19 crisis was only meant to support people in the private sector whose salaries were cut after employers were forced to close their businesses during the hard lockdown. The fund was not supposed to support government employees who received their full salaries during the hard lockdown. The labour department says around nine and a half thousand state workers received full salaries as well as a Ters payment. Marsha Bonkhorst has more on this. Courtesy #DStv403
