US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris's maternal uncle, Delhi-based academic Balachandran Gopalan, says his late sister would have been proud of her daughter and that the family would converge in Washington from across the US and from India, Canada and Mexico to witness her historic inauguration.

"If you go by historial roots, in 2024, she will be the first Afro-American, Asian-American President of the United States," he says.
