Although we are still waiting for the final election results, Democrat candidate Joe Biden is confident of a win as he is leading President Trump in key battleground states, including Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Nevada.
"My fellow Americans, we don't have a final declaration of victory yet, but the numbers tell a clear and convincing story: We are going to win this race."
Biden addressed the nation Friday night local time from Wilmington, Delaware, stressing that his campaign will win the race with a clear majority and is on track for over 300 Electoral College votes. The Democratic nominee is inching closer to clinching the White House as he currently has 253 of the 270 Electoral College votes needed for victory,... leading Trump by 40.
"We've gotten over 74 million votes. Let me repeat that: 74 million votes. That's more votes than any presidential ticket has gotten in the history of the United States of America, and our vote total is still growing."
He also said that these tallies represent voters from all races, faiths, and religions, giving a mandate for action on pressing issues, including COVID-19, the economy, climate change, and systemic racism.
"It's time for us to come together as a nation and heal. It won't be easy, but we must try. My responsibility as President will be to represent the whole nation."
However, uncertainty surrounds the election as Trump vows to keep fighting and never give up.
In a tweet Friday evening local time, Trump said, "Joe Biden should not wrongfully claim the office of the President," adding that legal proceedings are now beginning.
In a statement released by his campaign, Trump also said that he "would never give up fighting as this is about the integrity of the entire election process, and the American people deserve to have full transparency in vote counting".
