Coronavirus Effect On Tourism In India: Kerala Affected, Hotel Industry Hit Hard in Rajasthan

The novel coronavirus has claimed over 6000 lives globally and infected more than 165000. In India, the number of confirmed cases has risen to 114 with 38 cases in Maharashtra. 32 cases have been reported from Kerala and 12 from Uttar Pradesh. Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir have also reported 3 and 2 positive cases respectively. Kerala tourism industry has been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Shopping malls and cinema halls have also been shut down following the situation. The tourism business in Rajasthan is witnessing a major slowdown. As per Gajendra Luniwal, President of Jaipur Hotel Association the hotel industry in the state is looming under losses and 100 per cent bookings including advanced ones have been cancelled. Madhav Oza, director of Blue star air travel services in Mumbai said that there has been a 50 per cent reduction observed in international flight bookings. After the first positive case was detected from the state of Odisha, tourists including foreign tourists have been asked to leave the beach town.
