The Supreme Court on March 19 rejected the curative petition filed by Pawan Gupta, a convict in the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case. Gupta had moved the SC with a curative petition challenging the death sentence awarded to him. Asha Devi, Nirbhaya’s mother said, “Today is the last day. Tomorrow they are supposed to be hanged. I am hopeful that tomorrow they will be hanged.” Meanwhile, the wife of Nirbhaya’s gang rape convict Akshay Thakur’s wife filed a divorce petition in a family court. On December 16, 2012, Nirbhaya was brutally gang-raped and tortured on a moving bus and dumped on the road by six men.
