Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s announcement to make Gilgit-Baltistan the nation’s newest province has been met with fierce indignation in India. Gilgit-Baltistan is a part of Indian territory and illegally occupied by Pakistan. The move may have been driven by Beijing wanting to safeguard its interests in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which is part of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative.

पाकिस्तान के पीएम इमरान ख़ान ने रविवार को गिलगित-बाल्टिस्तान को अंतरिम प्रांत का दर्जा देने की घोषणा की थी. इमरान खान के ऐलान के 24 घंटे के अंदर ही भारत ने दो बार पाकिस्तान को सख्त चेतावनी जारी की. रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने पाकिस्तान को ललकारते हुए ट्वीट किया, 'गिलगित-बाल्टिस्तान पर पाकिस्तान ने अवैध कब्जा किया हुआ है. पाकिस्तान अब गिलगित-बाल्टिस्तान को राज्य बनाने जा रहा है. इस फैसले पर हमारी सरकार ने दो टूक शब्दों में कहा है कि PoK से लेकर गिलगित-बाल्टिस्तान तक भारत का अभिन्न अंग है.'
