Thiruvalluvar Day is celebrated on either January 15 or 16 every year in honour of the great poet Thiruvalluvar. It is a part of the Pongal celebrations and is on the fourth and final day which is also called Kaanum Pongal. This year Thiruvalluvar Day is on January 16. Thiruvalluvar was a great poet and philosopher. He is best known for his work as the author of Thirukkuṛaḷ, a collection of couplets on ethics, political and economic matters, and love.
