Delivery Apps Are Allegedly Asking California Drivers to Promote Prop 22
  • 4 years ago
As if upcoming election wasn't stressful enough, Californians have Proposition 22 to consider. The proposal could change how gig workers are classified, their benefits, and how much they could earn. And whether that's a positive or a negative probably depends on whether you're a driver or a gig app executive.Prop 22 is a way for companies to wriggle out of previous legislation that changed drivers from contractors to employees. So Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Instacart and others are surely in favor of Prop 22, and they've spent $184 million to help it pass. They've also been pushing their workers and restaurant partners to promote the initiative.Companies have asked drivers to place "Yes to Prop 22" stickers on orders, and given bags with messaging to restaurants.Since delivery drivers became essential during the pandemic, perhaps it's not the best time to try and limit their benefits
