6 arrested in Ballia shooting case; BJP MLA defends main accused

Police have arrested six persons on Friday over the death of a local BJP leader in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district. The man was shot during a heated argument over allotment of ration shops in the village on Thursday. The shooting took place at an event in Ballia, in which the local police, sub-divisional magistrate and the circle officer were present. At least 20 persons have been named in the police complaint. On Friday, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath ordered suspension of the sub-divisional magistrate, circle officer and all other police personnel who were present at the spot in Durjanpur village in Ballia's Reoti area.
