Kyrgyzstan's President Sooronbay Jeenbekov has resigned, saying he wanted to bring an end to the crisis sparked by disputed parliamentary elections. Emerging from a week in hiding, Jeenbekov said on October 15, 2020, that he is stepping down to avoid further bloodshed between protesters and police in the country of 6.5 million people located on the border with China.
