블랙핑크, 빌보드 '아티스트 100' 첫 정상…2위는 BTS

Two K-pop groups are doing what other Korean artists have tried to do and failed: namely crack the U.S. mainstream market.
They are BTS and Blackpink.
Both groups are dominating the airwaves stateside with their latest hits.

For the first time in the group's career, Blackpink has a U.S. number one hit, just ahead of BTS at number two.
Blackpink rocketed 64 places to the top spot on the Billboard Artist 100 Chart with the help of their latest album, which is titled "The Album."
It's the first time any girl group has reached the top spot since the chart's introduction in 2014.
BTS also maintained their grip on the prime spots, reaching number three last week and number one two weeks ago.
The Artist 100 chart ranks the top artists in the U.S. based on factors, including album sales, song consumption and social media activity.
On top of their U.S. success, a documentary on Blackpink will be available to watch on Netflix from Wednesday.
Offering viewers an intimate look behind-the-scenes as well as the back story about their journey to superstardom, "Blackpink: Light Up the Sky" is the first Netflix documentary ever made on a K-pop band.
It will be released in 190 countries.
At an online press conference Tuesday, Blackpink member Rose noted it's the story of how Blackpink became the band they are today.
Directed by Caroline Suh, the documentary is the fourth Netflix production to focus on female artists after Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Taylor Swift.
