Rammanohar Lohia was primarily a man of ideas. This is not to say that his short life (1910-1967) was bereft of action: there was his underground work during the Quit India Movement, in the Goa liberation, the movement for democracy in Nepal, and so on. But his goal of building a strong socialist movement in India was never realised, the Socialist Party he was part of has splintered and lost its character.

आज देश के महान स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, विचारक, समाजवादी नेता और गरीबों-पिछड़ों के आवाज राम मनोहर लोहिया की पुण्यतिथि है. राम मनोहर लोहिया जी को देश के लिए किए गए कई कार्यों के लिए याद किया जाता है. उनके विचार सियासत हो या समाज आज भी पूरी तरह प्रासंगिक हैं. 1942 में भूमिगत आजाद रेडियो के संचालक के नाते अंग्रेजों ने उन्हें लाहौर किले की उसी बैरक में यातनाएं दी थीं, जहां कभी शहीदे-आजम भगत सिंह कैद थे. वहां से अस्वस्थ अवस्था में जब वे गोवा स्वास्थ्य लाभ के लिए गये, तो वहां भी गोवा मुक्ति आंदोलन छेड़ दिया और पुर्तगाली पुलिस के हाथों अपनी गिरफ्तारी दी?
