Traditional clothing from around the world is on display at the 2020 Jongno Hanbok Festival this month.
But you don't have to travel to central Seoul to see the costumes, as this year's festival will take place online.
Our Kim Bo-kyoung reports.
A country's identity can be seen through its traditional costumes.
At the 2020 Jongno Hanbok Festival, viewers can see traditional clothing from around the world.
The Azerbaijan ambassador's wife showed off her country's gorgeous clothes covered with decorations.
While presenting Azerbaijan's clothes,... she expressed her love toward Korean traditional clothes, hanbok.
She says she made hanbok herself when the spouses of ambassadors took part in an exhibition to raise money for charity.
“This one is something very dear to me because I made it myself. I love it because I made it myself. I chose fabric, I worked on it until 5 AM in the morning on these hand stitches.”
When wearing it, she says she feels like she's gone back in time,... and added how sophisticated the dress looks.
“Another highlight is a Hanbok fashion show... held downtown in Seoul's Jongno-gu District.
It's taking place at Mugyewon, a traditional hanok home that is used as a cultural venue.”
Jongno-gu District's mayor says the location of the festival reflects hanbok's traditional roots.
“As the center of history and tradition, Jongno-gu District has been doing its best to preserve Korean heritage. Among many Korean traditions, I believe hanbok is the best in showing Korean culture and identity.”
While trying to keep this traditional identity, the fashion show's hanbok designer also tried to give the clothes a modern twist.
“I thought it would be proper to show the originality of hanbok. So I designed hanbok based on historical research, yet added the contemporary beauty to it.”
The Jongno Hanbok Festival will be held online from October 9th until the end of October.
