Government has enhanced the sales tax rate for petroleum relevant products. According to the notification issued by FBR, the sales tax for petrol has been increased from 12% to 17%, for high-speed diesel from 24% to 31%, for cerosin from 12% to 17%, and for light-diesel oil from 9% to 17%. To think is, what will a poor person do who cannot afford these rates when his salary is not increased accordingly? There is no trouble to accept these prices for a well-off person, but for the one who has only a motorbike which runs on petrol and he doesn’t earn enough to pay this price. Then will either he feed his family by his small income or pay extra charges for the petrol? Or does the government want him to travel on feet? All the loss is for poor! Are our officials got blind or otherwise senseless and merciless? What if these rates would not have been raised so high? What if they have care about the public by increasing the rates to an extent which would have made them affordable for the lower-class earners too?
