In April this year, Union Home Ministry removed 44 districts from the list of those affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE), indicating a shrinking of the area of Maoist influence in the country. This is the result of a multi-pronged strategy that includes an offensive security and sustained development to wean away the locals from Maoist ideology. However, this is not the end of Maoist supremacy in the Red Corridor.

आम जनता का मत है कि नक्सल समस्या का हल बातचीत के जरिए तलाशा जाना चाहिए। सीजी नेट स्वर और नई शांति प्रक्रिया की ओर से बस्तर समेत मध्य भारत में पिछले 50 साल से चली आ रही हिंसा का समाधान तलाशने के लिए 15 अगस्त से जनमत संग्रह शुरू किया गया था। इसके लिए एक फोन नंबर जारी किया गया था, जिसमें मिस्ड काल देकर हिंदी, गोंडी और हल्बी में अपना मत देने की अपील की गई थी।
