America needs a leader “That’s gonna work his ass off, ” an upbeat President Trump boasted Friday night, earning laughs at a Virginia campaign rally by chiding “Sleepy Joe” for routinely calling it a day early. Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden frequently calls early “lids” that indicate to reporters no more campaign events are planned, Trump joked. The president told a roaring crowd in Newport News that he, by contrast, powers through jam-packed days of events.“I got a guy, he stays in his basement all day long and I’m doing this, ” Trump said during the hour-long speech, which followed earlier Friday campaign events in Miami, Atlanta and Washington, DC.“I don’t know. If he wins, I’m gonna be very embarrassed. I’ll say, ‘Gee, I worked so hard, and he didn’t work at all, '” Trump said to wild cheers. Trump said Biden’s regular morning press coverage “lids” suggest a lazy candidate.“How can we have Joe Biden representing this country? And you know he’s on the lid, you know the lid right? The lid is when they say, ‘We’re gonna put a lid on it, '” Trump explained.“It’s an expression. And every day early in the morning, they say, ‘Joe, I mean Joe Biden, Sleepy Joe, he’s put a lid on it. ’“‘Sir, Biden has put a lid on it. What does that mean? ’ That means he’s not working today.“This guy takes four days off. You have to have a president that’s gonna work his ass off for this country. You need a very energetic president. ”Biden’s campaign called an early-afternoon lid — at 1:02 p. m. — on Friday after visiting Washington for an event honoring the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. On Thursday, Biden’s team declared a lid at 9:20 a. m. On Wednesday a lid came at 8:04 pm after a day trip to North Carolina. But on Tuesday there was another early-morning lid at 9:22 am. Trump said that by contrast, he woke up at 6 a. in Florida Friday before crisscrossing the country ahead of the 9 p. rally. Trump addressed Latino supporters in Florida at 11 a. and black supporters in Georgia around 3 p. m. He hosted a closed-press roundtable at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC, around 6 p. before flying to Virginia.
