President Moon Jae-in visited an industrial complex in Changwon on Thursday that the government plans to transform into what they call a "smart green industrial complex."
A smart green industrial complex consists of factories that are technologically equipped to perform tasks using artificial intelligence and at the same time are eco-friendly.
The government plans to build a total of 15 of them by 2025 investing more than 2-point-7 billion U.S. dollars.
The complex in Changwon is considered the one that can make the transition the fastest and become a model of "K-smart green industrial complex" for the world.
"If productivity can be augmented by using data network artificial intelligence while using clean energy to reduce environmental burdens, that will be a great innovation for industrial complexes. This great innovation is happening at the Changwon industial complex."
As part of the Korean New Deal initiative, the transition to smart green industrial complexes is expected to lead to jobs and innovation in manufacturing and help the country become an economic leader.
